The Chicago Golf Show was held this past weekend in Rosemont just outside of Chicago. I was fortunate enough to attend this event on Sunday with my girlfriend. It was my first time attending the show in the last 5 years or so and it was her first-ever experience.
Highlights
My girlfriend and I spent about 30 minutes in line in order to get a mini-lesson from the 9 or 10 PGA Instructors they had on site. It was a really great perk of the show that these instructors will take time out of their day to come and give mini-lessons for free to the many guests that were at the show. I told my instructor Kevin that I struggle with hitting the ball off the toe of the club and making consistent center contact. He set up a gate drill for me to do on the mat by putting a tee inside of the golf ball, thus getting me to hit more on the heel of the club rather than the toe. If I came too much from inside I would hit the tee.
Above is a video of me using this gate drill. This was one of better swings that I made and I made center contact!
Another highlight of the golf show was all of the discounted golf products you can purchase. My girlfriend is looking to play golf more this summer and one of our goals was to purchase her some golf clubs. We did just that! We were able to purchase a full set of Wilson golf clubs for only $300. Also, we got a weird story from our salesman how a coworker of his lost $5,000 at a strip club the previous night. It was a weird interaction, but my girlfriend was very happy with our purchase.
I also had the opportunity to test some irons and a driver from the PXG brand. I don't remember which irons or driver I hit, nor do I care, but it was still nice to test out the PXG clubs. Personally, I think PXG are loud and brash and honestly the clubs did not perform any different than any of the other clubs I have hit before.
Overall the golf show was a good experience and my girlfriend and I are looking forward to next year.
